The Trinity Baptist College Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to three in a row by defeating the NCAA Division III’s LaGrange College Tigers 4-1 Tuesday afternoon on the road.
Four different players scored goals — two in each half — as the Eagles played aggressive fast-paced soccer throughout the entire game.
Alex Goodwin started the scoring with the game’s first goal 20 minutes in with the assist coming from Arisa Robles. Goodwin has stepped up from her strong defensive efforts the past two seasons to join the front line, and she has responded with two goals in the team’s first four games.
Less than four minutes later, Kristin Pabon knocked one in off a corner kick from Arianna Elliot to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead, which ended up the halftime score.
Seven minutes into the second half, LaGrange got on the board when Lainey Bergeron got one past Courtney Blanset and cut the lead in half. Kelsie Lewis found Bergeron in front of the net to earn the assist. Blanset, though, saved two of three Panther shots on goal, and the Eagles’ defense held the Panthers to only those three shot attempts for the entire game. The defense did not allow a single shot attempt in the first half. The Eagles forged 13 shot attempts with eight of them reaching goal. Panther goalkeeper DeAundra Green saved four.
Elliot got the lead back up to two with a goal in Minute 55 on Alex Viera‘s assist, and Viera secured the win with the Eagles’s fourth goal when Robles got her the ball in Minute 63.
The Eagles will have 10 days before they continue their stretch of four games on the road. Then, on September 29, they will travel to Toccoa Falls College with a chance to sweep the season series in which they won the first game 5-1 on September 15. The team will then visit NAIA opponents Dalton State College (September 30) and Warner University (October 3) before returning to their home field to face Regent University on October 7.
