The Trinity Baptist College Eagles traveled south to Lake Wales to face the Royals of the NAIA’s Warner University. The Eagles met a very solid defensive front from the Royals, and Warner came away with the win by a score of 4-1.

The Eagles held Warner scoreless more than halfway through the first half, but Rachel DeWeerd then found a loose ball and slapped it in for the game’s first goal. DeWeerd picked up a rebounded ball when Courtney Blanset blocked a shot on the dive just one moment before. That was the only goal of the first half as Warner took a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

Warner scored three times in the second half on goals from Samantha Warren (Minute 49), Ashley Cole (Minute 56), and Denise Ortiz (Minute 71).

Alex Viera scored an unassisted goal for Trinity with 6:16 left to play.

Blanset played 63 minutes in goal and saved three. Jennifer Jeffery finished it off with four saves in her 27 minutes of work. Warner’s Sarah Bergkvist saved shots in 74 minutes, and Lexi Jones saved one in her 16 minutes in goal.

Trinity will next play at Webber International University (NAIA), also in Lake Wales, on Saturday, October 7. Two more road games (Florida College on October 10, Bob Jones University on October 14) are on the schedule before the Eagles return home to face Bob Jones University in Game 2 of the season series on October 19.

The Eagles are ranked #3 in this week’s NCCAA Division 2 poll, which came out Tuesday.
