Three players scored in double digits as the Trinity Baptist College Eagles closed out the 2017 Pensacola Classic against their namesake from Judson College with a very close game. A fourth-quarter comeback effort fell just a bit short as Judson held on for the win 61-55.
Shaina Hill, Shay Jackson, and Natalia Lopez led Trinity in scoring as Hill laid in 14 points while Jackson and Lopez each put up a baker’s dozen. All three players topped double digits in rebounds as well with 10, 12, and 12, respectively. Jackson was 3 for 7 from three-point range, and Lopez and Meagan Gooden each buried a three-pointer.
Trinity trailed by 13 late in the third quarter and made a run that pulled the team to within eight at the quarter’s end. Trinity outscored Judson in the fourth, but Judson’s defense stepped up at the end to stave off Trinity’s comeback effort.
Gooden finished with seven points overall, and Courtey Blanset, Diamond Alford, Siena Robinson, and Jade Jerez each scored two for Trinity.
Judson’s Bailey Davis led everyone on the court with 21 points while also pulling down eight rebounds. Teammates Haley King and Katie Speer also came up big as King scored 16 points and grabbed 27 rebounds while Speer contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds in Judson’s win. Libby Whitten contributed seven points, and Madison Casale added three.
Trinity’s next game is at home versus Warner University on Thursday, November 16. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST. Two days later, the Lady Eagles play the front end of a women’s/men’s double-header with Florida College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Trinity and Judson will meet again in Marion, Alabama, on January 6 as one of Trinity’s eight consecutive road games between November 21 and January 23.
