The Trinity Baptist College Eagles volleyball team defeated NCAA Wesleyan College 3 sets to 1 to earn a 1-1 split in Saturday’s tri-match that took place at Toccoa Falls College.
Trinity defeated Wesleyan College in four sets. The Eagles won sets 1, 2, and 4 by scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 27-25. Wesleyan took the third set 25-22.
Jessica Silva led the way with five service aces, and she was second in kills with six behind only Crystal Lavelle‘s eight. Lavelle had 20 total attacks, and Silva had 19. Natalia Lopez dug nine balls off the floor, and Silva dug seven.
Wesleyan is a member of NCAA Division III’s USA South Athletic Conference. The Wolves will host the Eagles in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 3, and later travel to Jacksonville to visit Trinity on Tuesday, October 24.
The Eagles had a break in between games as Wesleyan played host Toccoa Falls College, a match that the Screaming Eagles won.
In the Eagles’ first match, Toccoa won in three sets by scores of 25-1, 25-14, and 25-11. Coach Allen said her young team had some trouble finding rhythm after the break, but they came together in Sets 2 and 3, forged some promising rallies, and gave Toccoa a much tougher battle. Toccoa, however, came out on top.
Eagles head coach Judy Allen added this about her young team following the tri-match: “We were able to get our first win of the season. We have a lot of work ahead of us. With a new team, we are still trying to get our chemistry as one.”
The Eagles will return to Jacksonville but play downtown at Edward Waters College on Tuesday, September 19. The first serve will happen at 6:00 p.m. EDT. Trinity will then play at Florida Gateway College (Lake City) on Thursday, September 19, and then host South Region opponent Pensacola Christian College on Saturday, September 30.
Trinity will host a tri-match on Saturday, October 21. The Eagles will play Bob Jones University at 12:00 noon and Johnson University of Florida at 4:00 p.m. The two visitors will play each other in between.
