After opening the 2017 regular season on the road Thursday night, the Trinity Baptist College Eagles volleyball team played its first home game Friday night. The Eagles fought hard with a terrific Johnson University team but fell three games to one to the Royals.

After a seesaw battle throughout most of the second set, the Eagles fell behind 23-16. However, with Crystal Levelle serving, they scored nine unanswered points to win the set 25-23 and tie up the match at a game apiece.

Crystal Levell serves up the game-winning point to cap a nine-point comeback.

The Eagles got terrific front-line play all night — particularly from Jessica Silva, LaTeria Johnson, and Levelle — but Johnson matched them kill for kill. Monica Gardner had a brilliant match at the net for the Royals. The Royals’ wins were by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-11.

Silva led all players on the court with 15 points scored. She also led the Eagles with 12 kills while Levell had 4 serving aces and 21 digs. Silva and LaTeria Johnson each dug 12 balls off the floor. Gardner led Johnson University with 14 points while she and Kelley Wilder each had 12 kills and Danielle Quisenberry and Kendra Galler each served up 5 aces.

The Eagles will host the North-South Tournament next weekend (September 8 and 9) at both TBC and Eagle’s View Academy. Trinity will play at Eagle’s View Friday night against Johnson University of Florida and Bob Jones University at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. EDT, respectively. On Saturday, the Eagles will host Toccoa Falls College at 11:00 a.m and Pensacola Christian College at 3:00. Both Saturday games are at Trinity.
