Jacksonville, FL – Trinity Baptist College Director of Athletics John D. Jones has announced a change in leadership of the women’s volleyball program. Coach Jones is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Kirsten Chastain as the new head coach of TBC Volleyball.
Chastain served as an assistant to Coach Judy Allen in 2017. Coach Allen also serves as the Eagles head women’s basketball coach. She will now be able to give her full attention to basketball, as Coach Chastain takes over the volleyball team.
This past season, Chastain helped a young team learn to play the game competitively at the college level. She expressed her thoughts about taking over as head coach: “I am so excited about the opportunity to work alongside so many great professors and coaches at the college,” she said. “I learned so much from Coach Allen and appreciate her guidance and mentorship this past season. I also enjoy knowing I will be impacting female athletes in the areas of their Spiritual life, academic life, and volleyball.”
Previously, Chastain was the head coach for Trinity Christian Academy’s junior high and junior varsity teams for nine seasons. She and her team were the 2016 JH Independent Middle School Conference runner up. She then led her 2017 JV to their winningest season ever with a 13-2 record. Also a varsity assistant in 2016, she helped lead the Conquerors to a 24-6 record and a trip to the regional final in the 2016 state playoffs.
Coach Chastain is a graduate and a former volleyball player for both Trinity Baptist College and Trinity Christian Academy. She played for Trinity Christian from seventh grade through graduation in 2006. She then played college volleyball for Trinity Baptist for two years until two consecutive seasons with a torn ACL ended her college career.
“Coach Chastain is the perfect choice to lead our volleyball program going forward,” said TBC Athletics Director John D. Jones. “As an alumnus, she understands and values our culture and I am confident she will build a program that reflects our institutional values. I also want to thank Coach Judy Allen for stepping up when we needed her to fill the volleyball position on an interim basis. She is a consummate teammate.”
Chastain is the daughter of Mr. Roger Chastain, a general contractor for Trinity Baptist Church, and Mrs. Sharon Chastain, a Trinity Christian Academy elementary school teacher. Her brother Aaron is a TCA graduate who now works as a civil engineer in Pensacola, Florida.
Chastain described what she wants her players to learn under her leadership: “I want my players to fall in love with Christ and become the best volleyball players and best persons they can be,” she said. “I want them to develop strong moral character.” She added, “I am very excited to begin working for Trinity Baptist College and the TBC Eagles volleyball team.”
