The Trinity Baptist College Men’s Basketball Program has a long tradition of excellence.  Over the years, the program has won the NCCAA Regional regular season and/or tournament championships in 1988, 1989, 2013, 2014 and 2015, as well as four Bible College NIT Championships.  More important than this on-court success is the success of our graduates, who have gone out to represent Christ as pastors, missionaries, businessmen, teachers and coaches.

Current TBC Chancellor, Rev. Tom Messer was the first coach of the Eagles men’s basketball program back in the early 80’s.  Under his leadership, the Eagles established a reputation as a competitive program and won several conference and region championships.

In 1994, TBC hired Patrick J. Milligan as the new men’s basketball coach.  He led the team until 2012, when the program went to a two-team model.  Milligan continued in his role as coach of the team that competed for the Bible College NIT Championship until 2016.  Under his leadership, the Eagles won this tournament four times… 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2014.  Milligan is the all-time winningest coach at TBC and he was the school’s first inductee into the TBC Athletics Hall of Fame when it was formed in 2012.

In 2011, new TBC President Mac Heavener announced a major commitment to developing new athletic programs at TBC.  This move required the institution to join a respected athletic association that sponsored championships across a broad spectrum of sports.  The College was approved for membership in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in the spring of 2012.  John D. Jones was hired as Athletic Director and reestablished the NCCAA men’s basketball team, which competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association at the Division II level and has conference membership in the South Region.  The team also competes against NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 institutions such as Jacksonville University, University of North Florida, and Flagler.  Trinity quickly established itself as a respected program of excellence in the NCCAA.  The team has consistently been ranked in NCCAA national polls, has won 3 straight regular season South Region Championships (2013, 2014, 2015) and made it to the NCCAA Final Four in 2013.   In 2014, Head Coach John D. Jones eclipsed the 200 career win plateau and was named the NCCAA South Region Coach of the Year.

In the spring of 2016, the College Administration chose to merge the NIT and NCCAA teams into one varsity team.   Coach Milligan transitioned into a new role as head coach of the TBC Women’s Basketball team.  He retains the title “Head Coach Emeritus” of the men’s program… an honor that recognizes the faithful work he has done to develop young people through TBC Men’s Basketball.   Coach Jones will continue as the head coach of the unified men’s basketball team.
