Three Eagles scored in double-digits as Trinity Baptist College played the semifinal round of the 2018 NCCAA Division 2 South Region Tournament. The teams traded leads several times throughout the second half, but Trinity College of Florida pulled away in the final five minutes to win 69-60.
The Eagles came back from a 25-16 deficit late in the first half and scored 19 points in the seven minutes before the buzzer to take a 35-34 lead into the intermission. Marcus Dixon and Marquis Duncason led that late charge, and Chandler Rivers gave the Eagles the lead just moments before the halftime buzzer.
Rivers and Duncanson led the Eagles with 13 points each, and Dixon finished with 10. Jykayle Walker scored eight, and Marquel Perry added seven in the effort. Andrew Bowman contributed three points while Zack Norris, Ethan Payne, and Jacari Randolph each hit a field goal for the Eagles.
The game went back-and-forth throughout the second half.
Trinity College got double-digits from five different players, led by C.J. Peeples, Sam Mingledoff, and Tyron Bond, who each scored 13. Eliseo Sanchez followed with 12, and Jordan Stewart had 10. Mingledoff tied the game at 54-54 with 4:55 left to play, and Trinity College finished the game with a 15-6 run to put up the game’s final score.
Trinity Baptist College will host the men’s and the women’s 2018 Bible College NIT from March 1-3. Trinity College of Florida is among the six visiting teams who will participate. The Eagles will play Word of Life Bible Institute (NY) Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. EST. The five remaining teams are Johnson University of Florida, Mid-Atlantic Christian University (NC), Dayspring Bible College (IL), and Appalachian Bible College (W V).
The action begins at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1.
