In the third of four meetings with NCAA Division 1 opponents, the Trinity Baptist College Eagles traveled across town to visit the Dolphins of Jacksonville University. Chandler Rivers led the team with 12 points, and 10 total Eagles contributed points in the effort, but Jacksonville won it 105-48.
Rivers scored 9 of his 12 in the second half, including slam dunks at the 2:30 and 1:48 marks. He was 5 for 10 (50%) from the field, including a three-pointer.
Zack Norris was next with eight points on 40% shooting from the field and a 4-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. Marquel Perry scored 6 while Jykayle Walker and Andrew Bowman each had 5, Marquis Duncanson and Kaleb Botts had 3 each, and Marcus Dixon, Ethan Payne, and Caleb Howard added two points apiece.
Trinity did a fine job at the line, converting 64% overall on the night, including 71% (12 for 17) in the second half.
Jacksonville shot 61% from the field, led by Cody Helgeland‘s 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting overall and 5 for 8 from beyond the arc. JU hit 11 three-pointers overall and had six players reach double digits in scoring. Following Helgeland were Jalyn Hinton and Devin Harris each with 16, J.D. Notae with 13, Lee Richmond with 11, and Jace Hogan with 10.
Trinity will play two home games this weekend as part of the Eagles Classic. On Friday night, the Eagles host South Region rival Bob Jones University at 8:00 p.m. EST. On Saturday, Trinity takes on the University of the Bahamas at 4:00 p.m. These games are preceded by Johnson University of Florida vs. Bahamas Friday at 6:00 and Bob Jones vs. Johnson Saturday at 2:00.
On Tuesday, the Eagles will travel to Mobile, Alabama, to play NCAA Division 1 opponent #4: South Alabama University. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. Central time.
