Four TBC Eagles hit double-digits in scoring as Trinity Baptist College played their #1 rival in the South Region at Pensacola Christian College Saturday night. The game went down to the final buzzer, and Pensacola held on for the one-point victory 64-63.
Marquis Duncanson led Trinity with 15 points by hitting 6 of 12 shots (50%), including two three-pointers. He also hit both his free-throw attempts and assisted four other Trinity scores.
Chandler Rivers hit an even dozen, including 5 free throws in 7 attempts. He also pulled in five rebounds and stole away two Pensacola possessions. Marquel Perry scored 11 on a 5-for-8 performance, including a three-pointer, and Jykayle Walker contributed 10 points, six rebounds, a steal, and a blocked shot.
Ethan Payne put up seven points and two rebounds while Marcus Dixon added six points, an assist, nine rebounds, and a steal. Zack Norris hit a field goal in the Eagles’ effort.
Trinity shot a very impressive 45% from the field on the night, including 50% in the first half. The team hit 4 of 9 three-point attempts (44.4%), blocked three Pensacola shots, and stole away nine Pensacola possessions.
Pensacola’s Dakota Pratt led all players with 21 points, including a jump shot that gave his team their one-point lead with 3.5 seconds left on the clock. He also led with 10 rebounds and was 7 for 7 from the line. Pensacola as a team connected on 19 of 25 free throws. Deonte Hallums scored 10 points while Ian Johnson and Seth Crane each scored nine to help lead their team.
These two programs will hook up again in for a women’s/men’s double-header at Trinity on Tuesday, February 13. The women’s game will begin at 5:00 p.m. EST, and the gentlemen will follow at 7:00 p.m. Before then, however, both teams will travel to Trinity College of Florida for another South Region double-header on Tuesday, February 6.
