Jykayle Walker led all players with 19 points, and three teammates also hit double-digits as the Eagles battled the NAIA Florida College Falcons Tuesday night in Temple Terrace, Florida. Trinity played tough all night, but the Falcons came away with the 88-74 win.
Walker hit 7 of his 9 shot attempts (including a three-pointer) and 4 of 6 free throws to compile his game-high total. He also stole three possessions away from the Falcons and helped set up his team with scoring opportunities.
Marquel Perry was second on the court with 16 points via 8-for-14 shooting, including a three-pointer. Perry had four rebounds and three steals as well. Chandler Rivers and Marquis Duncanson each scored 11 points and combined for nine rebounds. Marcus Dixon added six points, Zack Norris and Caleb Howard each scored three, and Andrew Bowman and Ethan Payne added two points apiece in the Eagles’ effort.
The Eagles shot 41% from the field and 64% at the line. They scored 46 points in the paint and 19 off turnovers. Defensively, they kept the Falcons outside and limited them to 28 points in the paint.
Florida College got 16 points from Kent Hegarty and 14 from Jacob Roark. Kerwiken Morpas scored 12 while Franck Tsoungui and Jahkeal Samuel each had 10 to help lead the Falcons.
The Eagles will finish the regular season with five South Region games. The team will travel to Pensacola Christian College on Saturday and Trinity College of Florida on February 6 before playing their final two home games on February 13 (Pensacola Christian) and 16 (Toccoa Falls College). One road game remains at Johnson University of Florida on February 17.
The South Region Tournament takes place in Pensacola between February 22 and 24.
