Trinity Baptist College Basketball had a very successful 2016-2017 season, finishing with an official record of 15-11, including a playoff win, and just missing out on a South Region finals appearance. The recruiting season has begun, and head coach John. D. Jones has wasted no time in adding talent to an already formidable NCCAA Division 2 team.
Coach Jones and the TBC Eagles announce the signing of Paxon High School star Caleb Howard to the Eagles roster for the 2017-2018 season.
Caleb is a graduate of Jacksonville’s Paxon High School for Advanced Studies. He played junior varsity as a freshman and sophomore before joining the varsity Golden Eagles as a junior. On varsity, Caleb averaged 10.4 points per game in two seasons while scoring 171 points as a senior. He ranked second in Jacksonville in three-point shots made and three-point percentage as a senior.
Before joining the varsity team at Paxon, Caleb also played for the AAU Jacksonville Predators in addition to middle school basketball. Off the court, Caleb earned the Golden Eagle Award for JROTC as a junior.
Caleb has many reasons — basketball and more — for choosing Trinity Baptist College. “I chose TBC as it was coming down to the wire for me to choose where I want to attend college,” Caleb said. I was invited to one of their tryouts, and the coaches said they enjoyed watching me play and said I should apply. So I got right on it.
Yes, the biggest reason I chose to come here was basketball and its closeness to home. I also really like the quaint atmosphere and the small class sizes so I will be able to focus more easily. I look forward to making the best of my opportunities at TBC and hope and pray for the best.”
In addition to basketball, Caleb also ran cross country and played football for Paxon. He is originally from Dayton, Ohio, having moved to Jacksonville after his fifth-grade year. Caleb moved in with his grandmother, Ms. Yvonne Howard (pictured above), following the passing of his father in 2013.
Caleb plans to major in business in general and zero in on a specific interest as he grows through Trinity. His favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
The Eagles welcome Mr. Caleb Howard to the TBC family.
