Four Eagles scored in double digits while the defense held the opposition in check as the Trinity Baptist College Eagles defeated South Region opponent Toccoa Falls College 69-59 Friday night on the road.
Chandler Rivers tied for the game’s leading score with 17 points. Rivers was 8 for 14 (57%) from the field and tied four other players for the most rebounds with six. He also blocked a shot and stole three balls away from the Toccoa offense.
Marquel Perry sank 6 of 11 shots attempts (54%) and hit all three free throws to total 15 points. Marquis Duncanson (14) and Marcus Dixon (10) also topped the 10-point mark, and the four players combined for 70% shooting from the line. Trinity hit 75% of its free throws overall on the night.
Jykayle Walker added five points in the Eagles’ win, and Terry Byrd scored four. Andrew Bowman and Zack Norris each contributed a field goal, and Trinity out-rebounded Toccoa 38-33.
Toccoa shot 48% and hit four three-pointers in the first half to take a slim 34-32 lead into the break. Trinity’s defense then held the opposition to 31% shooting afterward while the offense stayed consistent in outscoring Toccoa 37-25 in the second half. Trinity also had 22 takeaways overall. Toccoa kept the game close with an 86% performance (13 for 15) at the line.
Toccoa’s Kevin Cave tied Rivers with 17 points, and Luke Baham was second with 16. Jordan Grayson scored 10, and four more teammates contributed points in the effort.
The Eagles will return home Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. EST to face South Region opponent Johnson University of Florida. The men will then host Piedmont International University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, preceded by the women’s game with Piedmont at 2:00. The men will then end the month of January at Florida College on January 30.
