Michael Cohick went the distance and blanked the opposition as the Eagles took Game 1 of a Saturday afternoon double-header with the USCAA’s Florida National University. The teams split the twin bill as FNU won the second game 4-3.
Game 1: Eagles 6, FNU 1
Cochick pitched a complete-game, three-hit, one-run outing to pick up the win in Game 1. He allowed only four total runners to reach base and fanned four. His final line reads 7 IP, 3H, 1 ER, 4K, 1 BB.
Jeremy Rivera was 2 for 2, walked twice, and drove in three runs for the Eagles. Jon Shiver, David Quevedo, and David Hall each drive in a run as well. Trinity scored three times in each of the first two innings, and Cohick held FNU scoreless until the seventh.
A.J. Alexio and Bryan Lopez each had two hits in three official at bats and two runs scored. Alexio stole a bag, and Christian Draper was 1 for 2 with a run scored in the Eagles’ win.
Game 2: FNU 4, Eagles 3
In Game 2, starter Matt Carter allowed two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings and struck out three. Uriah Brewer pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. A late Eagles offensive rally fell just a bit short.
Rivera had two more hits and two more RBI, Lopez scored another run, and Alexio scored twice as he did in Game 1.
Combined offensive highlights of the day include the following:
– Jeremy Rivera — 4 for 5 with a double, 2 walks, and 5 RBI’s.
– Bryan Lopez — 2 for 6 with a walk and 3 runs scored
– A.J. Aleixo — 2 for 5 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and 4 runs scored.
– David Quevedo – 2 for 6 with a double and a 1 RBI.
The Eagles will next play at Florida Memorial University in Miami on February 2 and 3. Friday afternoon’s single game will begin at 3:00 p.m. EST, and the first pitch of Saturday’s double-header is slated for 12:00 noon. Trinity will then play 10 consecutive home games, beginning with two vs. Thomas University on Tuesday, February 6 (4:00 p.m.).
