David Quevedo homered and finished the day 2 for 5 with 2 RBI, and Nick Mackedon was 4 for 6 with 1 RBI as Trinity battled one of its biggest rivals in Toccoa Falls College in a Saturday-afternoon double-header in North Georgia. Toccoa Falls won both games by scores of 4-3 and 9-3.
Quevedo capped a three-run rally in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run over the left-field fence. The homer also scored David Hall, who had just driven in Kelvin George one batter earlier.
Mackedon drove in a run in the top of the second inning of the opener. Matt Carter followed that RBI single from Mackedon and picked up his fourth RBI of the series on a sacrifice fly to right. The RBI put the Eagles ahead 2-1.
Jon Shiver doubled home Dan Richard (single) with the game-tying run in the fifth after Toccoa came back take a one-run lead two innings earlier. Shiver was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI overall, and Christian Draper’s second inning double led to the first Eagles run on Mackedon’s RBI base hit.
Mackedon was 3 for 3 at the plate in Game 2. Jordan Keys (2 for 6, R) and Richard (1 for 2, R) also had good games at the plate for the Eagles.
Toccoa’s Landon Mclane homered for the second straight game in the opener, and Caleb Banta followed with a solo shot in Game 2. Josh Slate and Justin Skinner pitched complete games, respectively, for Toccoa Falls. Mclane, Easton Staton, and Brandon Tamayo all had 2-RBI games.
Trinity’s final regular-season series features a home game with Edward Waters College on Friday, April 27, and a double-header at EWC’s J.P. Small Memorial Park on Saturday, April 28.
Friday night’s game is Senior Night at Trinity, the first in the history of the baseball program. Seniors A.J. Alexio, Matt Carter, Michael Cohick, David Hall, Jordan Keys, Dan Richard, and Jonathan Shiver will play in their final regular-season home game for Trinity Baptist College.
